Schedule

Schedule Details:

Service Project Time: While at the park we will work towards our service projects which include making Rosaries for Fr. Kouts’ Hospital Ministry, Christmas and Valentines Day cards making for our visits to the nursing home, creating homeless care packages to deliver to Saint Vincent DePaul, and collecting prayer books to bring that will be delivered to the juvenile detention center. All materials will be provided and are paid for by your membership dues (with the exception of the homeless care package materials and prayer books families will be personally collecting throughout the year).

Mom’s Social Time: Time to chat and catch up!

Mom’s Rosary, Read and Reflect: This is a special time for moms to pray the Rosary, read from “Our Daily Bread” and reflect together. We know that lots of moms have littles and will need to come and go from this gathering from time to time and this is completely fine! Also, no need to buy a book, we will have a copy available for you.

Angelus/Lunch/Announcements: We begin by praying the Angelus prayer, then praying for each other’s intentions, followed by any announcements that need to be made. We eat a packed lunch together and then have social time.

Pre-K Table: We will have a table/area designated for toddlers and preschoolers. It will include activities for children their age and at times their own version of our service project (like Rosaries they can make) or Catholic activities that coordinate with the liturgical year. This table/area is free and included with your membership.

Address to St. Andrew’s:

  • 8064 Weeping Willow St.
  • Brooksville, FL – 34613

Monthly Service Projects: Service projects include delivering our handmade Rosaries to Fr. Kouts, caroling at a local nursing home, and delivering homeless packages to St. Vincent DePaul. Members can visit the forum under First Fridays for more information on our monthly service projects and liturgical celebrations.

Class Descriptions:

*Signups and payment for classes will be directly between teacher and parent. Please go to the forum under Class Signups to get on the roster. Spaces are limited.

Schola – (50 min.) Free (will accept donations to go toward photocopies and music membership for music use)

Teacher Serena LeDuc. Class Min – 4.  Class Max – 15.

As I continue to learn Gregorian chant and the beautiful hymns of our faith, I like to be able to share the knowledge of music and our church history together. I will teach both chant, beginning with some plain chant to help comprehension of square notes and regular choir with a regular, modern staff.  The children will learn solfege, (Do, Re, Mi) and how to apply it to the musical line, whether it be a 4 or 5 line staff.  Based on the class, the previous skill level, and their motivation, we will also attempt using this knowledge toward performing polyphony as well.  Each year will be slightly different based on the age group and level of the children.

Violin (Private Classes) – (50 min.)

Teacher Serena LeDuc. $8.00 per class fee PLUS price of instrument. Buying is always cheaper than renting. *Registration deadline is sooner for this class  based on the teachers’ need to secure and pick up violins.* Class Min – 4. Class Max – 10

The beginning of learning violin is learning the fundamentals of the violin – its proper form.  We review how to properly hold the bow, get into playing position and how to do a proper bow stroke.  These first three steps are critical to learning how to play the violin successfully.  Once this has been achieved (and every group/child progresses at a different pace) we learn basic songs in the key of A Major so the children can get a thorough foundation of note reading while understanding how the musical scale operates within the piece.  From there we will study from Suzuki book 1.  I use the Suzuki method which teaches the pieces by memory in order to focus on form, BUT I also find it critical to teach note reading, rhythm and music theory as part of a general, and necessary, music education.  Group class is free for those who study privately with Serena.

Art:  (50 min.) $8 per class fee $50 supply fee.

Teacher Laura Diehm. Grades 1-5 & Grades 6-12 .

We will explore and understand the “Elements of Art,” which are an essential foundation to build upon the process of learning how to draw, they are the building blocks that art is made of that are: Color, Value, Intensity, Line, Shape, Form, Space, Volume, and Texture. These elements must be used to create quality work. Further exploration and understanding of “Principles of Art” these are the rules or guidelines that are combined with the “elements of art” that are: Balance, Contrast, Movement, Emphasis, Pattern, Proportion, Variety and Unity. When successfully combined with the elements of art, they aid in creating an aesthetically appealing work of art.

The “principles of art” are an organized way that the “elements of art” are arranged within a work and are dependent on the “elements of art.” This is covered in each class in a creative and fun environment. The “Fundamentals of Art” include composition, (placement of objects), dominance, (object of focus) content (message), aesthetics (attraction), symbolism (message of objects).

My approach is to teach students to “see” by focusing on focal points to decipher colors, consideration will be given as each person’s view and understanding vary and are subjective. Consideration will be given for figuring the proper methods for constructing their art projects, thereby encouraging children to think outside the box and to demonstrate different ways we can render an image. For example, composition, point of reference, value etc. In each of our classes, students regardless of their age, will learn this process and will build upon this foundation as they move up in experience.

The study of art contributes to academic achievement and student success.
